FROM THE CROOK OF THE ARMS OF AN EARTHLY MOTHER

Comfy and warm
in the crook of the arms
of an earthly mother. . .

Lit by the points of the stars
and the moon and the sun
of the one I’ve been told
is our father–
yours, mine and ours,

Hoping the roots
will stay strong
as wings stretch out long,
and vision hones
to bird’s eyed,

so that on
a swift, friendly wind
I can glide
to the place
I’ve determined
to go
to spread plenty warmth,
and comfort and light
to those who come
into my circle of sight,

and past that
perhaps yet a bit,
I will help that glow stretch
even a little bit farther.
