palms pressed together
by our hearts,
which we set
on the year we’ll ring in
with each clock’s strike
of midnight,

Seas, winds, and land
calmed. . .
minds blessed,
tasks taken up
in our arms,
to make better
what needs to be bettered. . .

So, when all bets are in
though we differ in distastes,
in our ways,
and our likes,

we will once more resemble
one people assembled
to share in the love
we all have,

and shine high in the sun
like a colorful, well-crafted kite
as we fly as a team
in our combined
and magnificent
and light.
