IF YOU GO UNPREPARED

If you go
unprepared,

come rain,
come snow,

the stuff of which you’re made may show,
so that it all works out OK. . .

But, simply know:
there’s nothing really wrong with you–

no need for shame,
if openly your feelings flow–

for that just comes to pass sometimes
in the veins of humankind–

and, though you be of quite strong heart
and steely mind,

it’s only natural
if you are scared.
