TO THOSE WHO LOOK LIKE THEY JUST LOST THEIR BEST FRIEND

There’s times
words spoke
to glum-faced ones,
will tend to note,
“You look like
you just lost
your best friend. . .”

But maybe it
is sometimes even harder,
when they know just where
their best friends are,
but their friends
are focused for the moment
on some other temporary, shining star,

and while they actually love them best,
for the present moment–
which is all we’ve got,
according to some wise, old texts–
they are failing
to the one they love best
to suitably attend.

But hope
is probably
not lost,
because any moment,
though some say
each one of those
is all we’ve got,

from where I live,
I can also say
“It’s not!”–

since
the right now
can also well be seen
as one sliced piece
cut clean through
the center across,

and is therefore blind and silent,
on the longer, bigger pic,
and does not necessarily
bode a really
dire, grim end.
