HOPE GROWS LIKE A SEED

HOPE GROWS LIKE A SEED
Posted on April 24, 2015 by elainedanforth

Hope
grows like a hearty seed
hid deep in soil
with water drops
quite rare,
it sprouts into a tiny coil
before it dares
send down root
and rise up shoot,

until,
at quite long last
its leafy arms do stretch,
their light-hungry eyes to ope
to start the growth
as swift and smooth
and stately as an antelope.

And its being
hums
with size and reach quite vast,
bringing to the rest of us
a force to reckon with
but, too, a friend
with whom we live and breathe,
the better
deep and long
to cope.

  1. Nice …reminds me of Dickinson, Dunbar, & Langston Hughes

    • Oh, my goodness! Thank you Cocktail Molly!

You are putting me in incredibly good company with that remark. I am not even familiar with Dunbar (guessing you mean Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and I am afraid to say, only because he’s the one at the top of the Web Search), but I am now interested to read a bit of his work.

      • Yes it was Paul Laurence Dunbar. Don’t know if his work will erect the same type of feeling in you, but yes it gave off that vibe along with Dickinson & Hughes. Looking 4ward 2 reading more of your stuff.
