the human spirit
so deep. . .
such a long way down
to hit the bottom. . .

but, once set,
there are some courses
upon which,
to base
of the abyss
you’re sure to get,
if you don’t change direction. . .

but often it feels easier
to ride the tide that takes you there. . .

and if
you land in one piece,
breathing there,
you’ll have a bit of
straining reconstruction
to instruct yourself
how best
to climb back out,
step by slippery foothold step,

all without
magical concoction.

But when you do,
the Universe’s light
you will, at last,
see too–
of which you’re
the reflection.
