A BRILLIANT HARBINGER

My quiet walk:
sky gray. . .
late day. . .

I refresh me
top to bottom. . .

persimmon
flame-hued and squat
on a neighbor tree
does pop,
delights my eye–

a brilliant harbinger
that wants to say
that now
it’s autumn.
