PRAYER FOR THE NIGHT

Weary me,
I’ve lived this day
the best way that I knew–

it’s evening, now
the stars prick through
the deep night blue
that moon will wash
in night-bright rays–

God grant the grace
when tolls that hour
it proves within my power
to relax well on here earth,
receive the peace
and life
from outer space
into this ordinary vessel
settled, stretched-out breathing me
with closed and sleeping eyes.
